A member of New
York's prestigious Actors Studio, Charlotte Cohn is a New York
actress with an international flair.
Charlotte was born in
Copenhagen and raised in Jerusalem. Charlotte's entire family
still lives in Israel, and she goes home to visit as much as she can.
"Because," she says, "bombs or not, Israel is still home."
As
a teenager in Israel, Charlotte served in the Israeli Army. Stationed
on a Tank Commander's base, Charlotte swiftly climbed the ranks to
Lieutenant. But her sights were set on another career.
Soon after her release from the Army, Charlotte left Israel to study
acting in New York City.
Once in New York,
Charlotte's goals swiftly began to fall into place. While still a
student at the New School's prestigious Actors Studio Graduate M.F.A.
Program, Charlotte had the great fortune to work alongside Elliott
Gould, in ONE HUNDRED GATES, at The Jewish Theatre of NY, off
Broadway.
Merely a year after
graduation, one of her greatest dreams came true: Not only would she
be making her Broadway debut in the first-ever Broadway production of
Puccini's LA BOHEME, but she'd be doing it under the direction of the
exciting and celebrated Australian director, Baz Luhrmann, whose films
MOULIN ROUGE, ROMEO + JULIET and STRICTLY BALLROOM had brought him
worldwide fame.
Charlotte opened with
LA BOHEME at the Curran Theatre in San Francisco and followed it to New
York where it ran on Broadway to critical acclaim. She appeared in the
show again in December 2003, when it kicked off an international tour,
at the Ahmanson Theatre, Los Angeles, where she performed the lead
role of "Musetta."
As part of the LA BOHEME
cast, Charlotte was privileged to appear on the "2003 Tony Awards" and
to be featured in "Broadway Bares XIII," directed and choreographed by
Jerry Mitchell, choreographer of the Broadway hits HAIRSPRAY, LEGALLY BLONDE, THE FULL
MONTY, and TV's "Step Up and Dance."
Charlotte has since performed the lead in regional productions across the country. At Centerstage theatre, Baltimore she was lucky to work with the amazing Irene Lewis in 'The Murder of Isaac' which later had a reading at The Public Theatre in NYC and was extremely honored to perform the lead role 'Hallelujah Lil' in ACT's production of 'Happy End'. A cast recording of the show is now available for purchase in record stores worldwide and on Amazon.com.
Charlotte and her husband, Jason Odell Williams, are co-founders of their
own production company,
'Bandwagon Prod.', and they are currently working
on their new play entitled "Baltimore in Black and White." Their first film, THE
DANISH PLAY, made its NYC premiere in November '03, and their play 'At A Loss' got it's first NY reading at Primary Stages on March 10th, 2008.
As an active member of
the New York theatre community, Charlotte has gathered some amazing
friends, teachers and mentors in the professional world, through
shows, workshops, school, readings and charity events. Her heartfelt
thanks go out to James Lipton, Jerry Mitchell, Carlin Glynn, Elizabeth
Kemp, Dasha Epstein, Manny Azenberg, Kevin McCollum, Frank London, Glen Berger and Baz Luhrmann.
Most important of all,
Charlotte dedicates all her work and successes to the memory of her
father, Herluf Cohn. |
